Ruud van Nistelrooy finally breaks his silence on Erik ten Hag’s sacking and calls for Man Utd – Man Utd squad

Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of Manchester United’s cup game against Leicester City this evening.

Ruud van Nistelrooy has broken his silence over Erik ten Hag’s sacking at Manchester United before taking over the club.

Van Nistelrooy has been appointed Man United manager for today’s Carabao Cup game against Leicester City at Old Trafford following the sacking of Ten Hag.

He returned to the club in the summer after a productive spell as a player, where he scored an impressive 150 goals in all competitions and won the Premier League title in the 2002/03 season.

However, it looks like his stint as assistant manager at Man United won’t last long pending Ruben Amorim’s planned move.

Before leading the Red Devils against the Foxes, he appeared to challenge the team, saying: “When I came back as Erik’s assistant in the summer, I did so because I believe that Manchester United can climb back to the level that I knew here . “As a player, I still believe in it, but it will take time and a lot of hard work.

Van Nistelrooy added: “We have seen the potential of the team at times this season, but obviously not often enough. Now it’s time for everyone at the club to work together, give it their all and turn this season around while we have time.”

In another interview he talked about the cultures and values that still exist: “I think it’s great that you walk in somewhere and immediately see, taste and smell the culture.”

“I had it at PSV, at Real Madrid. At Heerenveen. Values. Standards. I want to read about it, understand something about the culture you’re entering. That was also the case at United.”

Ten Hag not only brought Van Nistelrooy, but also Rene Hake, who came from Dutch club Go Ahead Eagles.

The legendary striker will get a taste of Man United’s management and look to lead the club to the next round of the competition.

Man United have secured their place in the last 16 of the Carabao Cup after being beaten 7-0 by Championship side Barnsley last month.
