The whirlwind off the pitch continues at Castleford Tigers, with the club now confirming another overseas signing for 2025.
Having already signed center Zac Cini from the Parramatta Eels, the Castleford Tigers have once again caused a stir in a fortnight full of important off-field developments.
Initially it was confirmed that investor Martin Jepson had bought out the Fulton family, increasing his shareholding from 32% to almost 100%, after which the new owner put his own stamp on the club.
He would do this by firing Craig Lingard and promoting his assistant Danny McGuire to head coach. Just yesterday, Cas confirmed McGuire’s former Leeds Rhinos teammate Brett Delaney as his new assistant.
Along with all this movement was a serious lack of signings, but that has now been remedied with Castleford Tigers announcing that centre-back Daejarn Asi has signed a two-year deal.
Asi is the second overseas recruit and the second to arrive from Parramatta Eels, following in Cini’s footsteps.
Castleford Tigers sign international centre-back
A statement from Castleford Tigers confirmed the signing.
It read: “Castleford Tigers are delighted to announce the signing of Daejarn Asi on a two-year contract!
“The 24-year-old Samoan international played 14 games for the Paramatta Eels in the 2024 NRL season. Asi has made 42 appearances in his NRL career since making his debut in 2020.
“As a utility back, Asi can operate at the center, five-eighth and halfback positions, which will benefit the Tigers in 2025. Asi has demonstrated his versatility in the NRL and international level, having appeared for North Queensland Cowboys, New Zealand Warriors, Paramatta Eels and Samoa.
On Asi, director of rugby Danny Wilson said: “Daejarn is a very exciting young player who already has plenty of NRL experience. “He will certainly add quality to our team. We are delighted to welcome him and look forward to seeing him in action.”
Earlier in the day, reports emerged of another Castleford Tigers signing, Judah Rimbu, and the alleged length of his contract. Cas fans can watch him suit up for Papua New Guinea against the Cook Islands this Sunday morning.
