Nottingham Forest have one of the safest managers in the Premier League at the moment, but the same cannot be said for Manchester United following the sacking of Erik ten Hag.
Nuno Espirito Santo overcame a Nottingham Forest push that few expected and had a European chance at the City Ground.
The Reds still have the second best defense in the Premier League, thanks to the way Nuno has set up his team and really formed partnerships.
It’s the summer recruitment that has really changed Forest with some new arrivals. People like Elliot Anderson and Nikola Milenkovic have already proven themselves successful.
January offers Forest another opportunity to strengthen themselves, but also offers other clubs the chance to test themselves against some of the current stars at the City Ground.
Erik ten Hag has been sacked as Manchester United manager
Erik ten Hag was relieved of his duties as Manchester United manager following the defeat to West Ham United at the weekend.
The Red Devils are currently 14th in the Premier League, five points behind Nottingham Forest.
A number of candidates have already been considered, including Graham Potter, Ruben Amorim, Marco Silva, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Thomas Frank.
Erik ten Hag’s mistake that could earn Nottingham Forest tens of millions
Anthony Elanga left Manchester United to join Forest for £15m last summer.
He made 55 appearances for the Red Devils first team. But in his final season at the club under Erik ten Hag, he made just five Premier League appearances. Choosing Antony instead of Elanga proved to be a big mistake, especially given the two players’ different trajectories.
This led to Elanga seeking a new challenge, stating the reason he wanted to leave was to play more.
Interestingly, Elanga was the subject of a £50m offer from Newcastle United in the summer, but this was later rejected.
A future move for Elanga cannot be ruled out either as Newcastle remain interested, although it is said that a move in January is unlikely due to PSR.
Of course, selling Anthony Elanga is by no means a necessity as he was a key member at Nottingham Forest and we definitely don’t want him to leave with a lot of potential to be unlocked.
He hasn’t quite reached his peak performance this season, but he improved significantly on Friday.
But there will be price targets that are too good to refuse.
Considering he joined for just £15m and the Reds have already received a £50m offer, there is potential to seriously capitalize on in the future.
Brennan Johnson is the perfect example of this. He spent his entire career at the Nigel Doughty Academy before Evangelos Marinakis decided to make the £47.5m move.
